Leadership Development


about the CFJ North Shore leadership Program

Personal Development Workshops

CFJNS will offer workshops for all players to attend throughout the year. These workshops are optional and will take place in a classroom-like setting where presenters will educate players on the topics. Players will be encouraged to attend and learn as much as they can. 

  • Personal Core Values Workshop
  • Sleep, Hydration, Nutrition Workshops
  • Goal Setting

Our Performance Night 2019 will feature professionals from the Chicago Fire Academy Performance Advisory Support Service (PASS) and Monique Ryan, owner of Personal Nutrition Designs. Personal Nutrition Designs is based in Evanston and works directly with the Chicago Fire Academy.

Leadership Groups

Players U13-U19 are encouraged to enter our leadership groups. These groups will meet six times (once per month) from January through June.

These meeting will concentrate on how players can use their own personal values in their leadership styles, how to positively impact team's performance, and how to support the development of the team culture according to the club's values. 

Examples of workshops may include; 

  • Leadership style workshop
  • Captain workshop
  • Core values and club culture workshop
  • Creating a winning culture workshop

 

Club Ambassador and Coach-in-Training Program

Players from our leadership groups interest in learning more about coaching and leadership are encouraged to join our Coach-in-Training program. This program will assign a player to a Pre-Travel or U8 training session based on the player's team training schedule.

During the training, the CIT will support the Team Evanston coaching staff and become part of the team supporting our youngest players' development. By supporting the coaching staff, CITs will be around coaching role models in their environment giving the CIT a chance to better understand the challenges and solutions to coaching a team. Roles may include: 

  • Encouraging young players on the FUNdamentals of the game
  • Basic technical instruction and demonstration 
  • Training set-up
  • Training Take-down
  • Player management
  • Demonstrating our club's core values (role model) 

Successful CITs will be encouraged to complete their USSF Grassroots license.

ABOUT The Chicago Fire Academy PASS Program

The CFJ North Shore Leadership Program is an extension of the Chicago Fire Academy PASS Program. The PASS program that goes beyond the traditional X's and O's of coaching and towards a 'broad based holistic approach' to educating young athletes. 

  • PERFORM: to achieve, realize, work, or attain;
  • ADVISE: to consult, help, counsel, or recommend;
  • SUPPORT: to frame or provide a ground fountain, base, or scaffold;
  • SERVE: participants of the Chicago Fire programs at all levels.

PASS supports player development by offering unique personal development workshops that helps players improve their intrapersonal skills and practice their personalities leadership style. 

CFJNS's Leadership program follows PASS's few, some, and all methodology. 

  • ALL players will have an opportunity to participate in the personal development workshop and performance workshops including discussion on personal management of sleep, hydration, and nutrition. 
  • SOME players will be nominated for the captains' training where players will enter into leadership cohorts meeting with coaching staff and PASS leadership to discuss how to positively influence and impact the team's culture.  
  • FEW players from our leadership cohorts will be offered our Coach- in-Training program and/or our Club Ambassador program. This will support players leadership inside and outside of the club.
